Rain coming to Florida this week and cooling trend in Culiacan, Mexico.
FLORIDA
Rain on Wednesday and Thursday coming to the sunshine state along with cold temps Saturday night.
Tomorrow and Thursday expect a decent amount of rain to hit all major growing regions up and down the state. Plant City is expecting a little over 1.5” of rain between Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday the temps will begin to drop and Plant City will have a min temp of 42° on Saturday and 44°on Sunday. Strawberries are coming out of this region right now.
Belle Glade is also expecting up to 1.5” of rain between tomorrow and Thursday. The min temp for Saturday will be 45° but back up to 53° by Sunday. Belle Glade right now is shipping a large variety of commodities; bell peppers, squash, beans, celery, cukes, corn, etc.
Immokalee famous for mature green tomatoes will see close to 1.75” of rain between tomorrow and Thursday. It will also see a dip in temps over the weekend with a min temp of 42° on Saturday and 48° on Sunday.
Arcadia and Palmetto/Ruskin will see the worst of the storm with almost 2.5” of rain tomorrow and Thursday. Temps will dip down to 40° on Saturday and 45° on Sunday.
COACHELLA VALLEY / YUMA
Mini heatwave coming to the desert southwest this week.
Starting tomorrow the desert regions of Coachella, Imperial, Yuma and Mexicali will experience a 4 day mini heat wave that will last through Saturday. The max temps for the region will be in the upper 70s will the possibility of 80° somewhere during those four days. The minimum temps will be in the upper 40°s and low 50°s. By Tuesday of next week the max temps will be back down into the upper 60°s and minimum temps back down into the low 40°s.
MEXICO
Another round of cold temps coming to Michoacán, Guanajuato and Puebla. Veg, Berry and avocado regions.
Starting this Wednesday nightly min temps will drop 10 to 12° from where they are currently. Irapuato, Guanajuato will have a min temp of 37° on Wednesday, 35° on Thursday and Friday and 38° on Saturday and Sunday. Leon and Cortazar, Guanajuato will see min temps dip down between 32° and 34° on Thursday and Friday.
Most all berry growing locations throughout the state of Michoacán will see near freezing temps Wednesday through Saturday. La Piedad will have a min temp of 38°on Wed, 35° on Thurs and Fri and 39° on Saturday. Jacona will be 34° on Wednesday night, 30° on Thursday and 34° again on Friday. Zamora will dip down to 36° on Thursday and 39° on Friday.
Berries out of Baja CA will not be affected.
Avocado regions of Michoacán will also experience cold weather. Uruapan will see a min temp of 38° on Thursday and 39° on Friday. Morelia will dip down to 37° on Wednesday, 34° on Thurs and Fri and then 36° on Saturday.
Culiacan will also experience somewhat cooler temps this week that might slow down production just a bit out of the area. Tonight Culiacan will see a min temp of 49°, unusually cold for this part of Mexico. The minimum temp for the region will be between 50° and 52° all week. Highs will be in the mid to upper 80°s. This region is shipping tomates, bells, cukes, eggplant, etc. We might see a slowdown in production this week, maybe something to take note of.
CHILE
Inland growing regions of Chile are experiencing a late spring heat wave. Santiago, Rancagua, San Felipe are experiencing highs in the upper 80°s and low 90°s and minimum temps in the low 60°s. These temps are about 10° above normal. These higher temps will last through next week at least. Maybe these temps will cause peach the harvest to start earlier than normal?
COASTAL CA
Oxnard and Santa Maria will experience mostly average temps over the next ten days. The hottest day of the week will be this Thursday with a max temp of 73° in both locations but the remainder of the week and next week will see highs in the mid to upper 60°s and minimum temps in the mid to upper 40°s. Santa Maria has a 40% chance of rain for next Monday and Tuesday (Christmas Eve and day). 0.25” of rain predicted.
